The Arts in Wiltshire
Wiltshire is fortunate in having a wide ranging programme of arts.
Some organisations work at a very local level, for example there is an extensive network of performances in villages throughout the county, whilst others enjoy a national as well as a local reputation.
There is a thriving youth arts programme and a programme of high quality arts
projects
produced by disabled people as well as innovative companies presenting arts in health projects, drama, music, opera and exhibitions.
The arts play an important role in the well being of the local community and
deliver many local and national government priorities around healthy living, community safety, and opportunities for young people and learning.
The relevance of the arts to the implementation of the Wiltshire Community
Strategy
is very important. At the same time, the arts deliver impressive returns on the funding investments which the County Council makes.
A 2005 study found that County Council funding of £112,000
to seven key arts organisations levered a further £3.3 million into Wiltshire. These organisations also provided a service to a further 230 local organisations in the form of space, equipment and partnership projects etc. |
