Wiltshire Arts Promoters is a representative group of professional artists and arts organisations in the county.

WAP's objectives are to:

   *  Offer real partnership and support to strategic arts development in Wiltshire

   *  Deliver a co-ordinated, collective and coherent voice for the arts in Wiltshire

   *  Provide an action led forum leading to positive outcomes for shared objectives

Membership is open to organisations and individuals who are involved in producing and promoting the arts in Wiltshire. It offers a unique networking opportunity to provide mutual support and to raise the profile of the arts in the county.

The arts in Wiltshire

One of the key tasks we feel we have as a network is to advocate for the arts, to reinforce whenever we can, the vital role the arts play in our communities and our economy. We appreciate that this isn't easy as although we may be very knowledgeable about our own work or that of the organisations we work for we may feel less confident about talking about the arts in a Wiltshire wide context.

To help, WAP has developed an 'Elevator Speech' simply a couple of paragraphs that can be used as a basis for a conversations or presentation on the arts in Wiltshire. WAP has also developed a DVD which we've uploaded onto this page.

Elevator speech

Wiltshire has a world-class arts offering to be proud of. As well as an International Festival and the South West’s leading producing theatre, it boasts museums, galleries, arts centres, a concert hall, a carnival, producing theatre companies, many arts practitioners, an orchestra and some fantastic community arts organisations. From dance classes for older people and youth theatre opportunities for young people, to bringing colour and inspiration to NHS patients, the arts in Wiltshire changes peoples’ lives for the better.

Wiltshire has a thriving arts scene, and Wiltshire Arts Promoters exists to represent the professional arts organisations in the county. Together we are committed to making the arts accessible to all, and to delivering excellent artistic experiences to Wiltshire’s residents that contribute to the well being of our communities.

But like any eco-system, the arts in Wiltshire need support in order to sustain it in the long term, and we feel strongly that some level of public subsidy remains vital. The arts represent amazing value for money both to Wiltshire Council and to the Council Tax payers within the county. This year, the arts accounted for less than 0.1% of the Wiltshire Council budget, costing Council Tax payers less than 10 pence per month.

Wiltshire Arts Promoters have a valuable contribution to make to Area Boards and Community Area Partnerships. Working closely with Wiltshire Council’s Head of Arts, Wiltshire Arts Promoters can act as a delivery mechanism for professional arts in the county, and can help deliver a wide range of Wiltshire Council’s objectives.
